Karger First to file to be in New Hampshire Primary

CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE – Californian and former Reagan aide Fred Karger turned in his paperwork, his cashier’s check for $1,000 and officially filed to run in the New Hampshire Republican Presidential Primary this morning.  Karger was the first candidate to personally present his check and paperwork to New Hampshire’s Secretary of State Bill Gardner on the day filing opened in this first-in-the-nation Primary state.

The cashiers check was drawn from his hometown bank, the Wells Fargo branch in Laguna Beach, CA.

“I wanted to be the first Republican candidate for President to personally file for the New Hampshire Primary – whenever it may be.  We were there right when the office opened at 8:00 am sharp.”

Fred signed the official Declaration of Candidacy (RSA 655:47) on the historic 200 year old desk used by all Presidential candidates entering the NH Primary.

Karger was the first to announce his intention to run for President, the first to form an exploratory committee, the first to hire staff in New Hampshire, the first to run a commercial in NH, the first to win a NH straw poll, the first to hold a Town Hall Meeting in NH and the first to file for President with the Federal Election Commission in Washington, DC back on March 23, 2011.

Today, Karger becomes the first openly gay candidate to ever file to run in the New Hampshire Presidential Primary of either major political party.  He is currently residing in Manchester, NH, having leased a home there for seven months.

Fred had an impromptu news conference after turning in his paperwork.  There was a lot of media at the Secretary of State’s office.

“History was made today in New Hampshire.  On behalf of millions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans I am so proud to take this historic step,” concluded Karger.
